About ‘The Cube’

#8 Howard Cook Rd, Roswell, NM

The Cube is a 10’x 10’x 10′ white walled space. Built inside Ryder’s studio at the RAiR in October of 2012, it’s lack of trappings and white walls allow it to function as both a ‘nowhere space’ and ‘gallery’.

Conceptually, I find the space interesting due to it’s meta critical nature of establishing a sacred, public space (gallery) within an already sacred, yet often private space (studio), both distinguishing and confusing the labor of the studio with the refined practice of showcasing art. Allowing interior and exterior interaction, this space of vacancy establishes a cycle of influence between working and exhibiting.

In efforts to further compound and confound this duality I will be legitimizing The Cube through curation and directorship of the space.

* update: The Cube closes in mid-July as Ryder has to begin packing to move back to Dallas.
